Synapse Arts believes that dance has the power to build up our communities, and we need your help to make our classes and performances available to everyone. Right now it’s more important than ever for us to meet our neighbors, build trust in each other, and come together with joy. Despite the recent inflation, we are committed to keeping classes affordable, our community performances free, and paying our artists a living wage.
We've had more demand than ever this year: We planned to do 4 Crosswalk Dances but got so many requests from community organizations that we ended up doing 8. At one park district location, there were so many students on the waiting list we had to add another class.
The message is clear: our communities need art.
For 18 years Synapse has produced dance performances and taught students throughout Chicago, with a focus on underrepresented populations, most notably queer women, and dancers of varying economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. When you donate to Synapse Arts, you support:
- Classes for young dancers for as low as $1.80/class, at Park Districts such as Loyola Park, Berger Park, and Lincoln Park
- Free community performances at locations like Loyola Park, Howard Street, and Uptown Public Library
- Mentorship and opportunities for artists from marginalized communities, including women, BIPOC artists, and people who identify as LGBTQIA+
Our fundraiser kicked off on National Dance Day September 17th, with a special performance of Crosswalk Dances at Jarvis Square Artisan Market. Thank you to everyone who donated and visited our bake sale; and thanks especially to Charmers Café and Jarvis Square Tavern for sponsoring the event.
Will you help us reach our goal of $1500 to support this important programming for Rogers Park and northside neighborhoods? Support Roger Park artists and communities by donating today. Thank you for dancing local!
